![]() July 27 – November 3, 2020: Mark von Schlegell, “Demon Kind” We are excited to announce a new solo online exhibition by Dr. Mark von Schlegell of twenty-four watercolor works, especially conceived and executed to be “hung” in the von Schlegell-designed “Real/Books” info-architecture. Jeff Vandermeer wrote in Bookforum how Dr. v. Schlegell’s science fiction “ignores the current scene” as it “addresses the realities of a grim future with grace, humour, and intellectual honesty.” Via its own newfangled old-school, “Demon Kind” occupies a similar trajectory in a visual mode. Shining out from the null space of social-distance, these small, 1d, high-content friends of the environment insert themselves online with devilish ease. Moving among the relatively re-sized images into the illusory third dimension, one can follow the drifting scans as an invitation to move through cyberspace and discover new cinematic juxtapositions. In a show at an online bookstore, new book portraits by the author of “The Paperback Revolution: A Selection” are to be expected. But the demons, inspired by writing horror, may surprise. Mitch McConnell? William Barr? Expressionism? Blame it on the moment.
